Moose Cow, Yukon Territory, Canada
The Yukon Territory can make you feel like you've walked into an episode of
Northern Exposure. One spring, the moose cow pictured here dropped two calves
about 30' downriver from this spot. With increasingly warmer winter temperatures
in the Yukon, the moose have largely stayed on higher ground to avoid predators
which include wolves and humans. Remaining at higher altitude for much of the
year may enable their herd numbers to increase, which would be a very good thing.
