Truck on the Alaska Highway, Yukon Territory,
Canada
At the time I took this photo, it was about -20° Celsius (-4° Fahrenheit).
I'd been on the road for most of the 36 hours I'd spend doing field research
for a magazine article I was writing. The temperature felt almost balmy compared
to the previous day's low of -25° Celsius (-13° Fahrenheit). The view
from this spot on the Alaska Highway was a reminder to me of how small my
place is in the world.

2006 issue of Trucker's Connection magazine.)
